Somatic Experiencing® (SE), is a body-based, naturalistic approach to healing trauma.
It was founded by Dr. Peter Levine, who through decades of research and study, developed this method as a way of restoring balance to the nervous system after the effects of traumatic experiences. SE is based on the notion that traditional talk therapy, which engages the higher analytical functions of the brain, does not fully take into account the place where trauma is most commonly held: the body.
Somatic Experiencing® helps us access the thwarted fight/flight energies of a traumatic event and facilitates the completion of self protective responses, such as healthy aggression. Through a gentle, collaborative process with an SE practitioner, clients can learn the language of their bodies, learn tools for self regulation and restore their nervous system equilibrium. This allows for a fuller range of emotional and physical expression, and a more embodied way of being.
Mahshid is a lead assistant and co-instructor at several US based and international SE trainings. Supporting SE students through their Somatic Experiencing® training journey, has become one of her greatest passions.
Mahshid is currently on the Faculty Track at Somatic Experiencing International and she is approved to provide personal sessions, as well as individual and group case consultations at the beginning, intermediate and advanced level of the SE training. SE personal sessions and case consults can help students integrate the training material and gain a deeper understanding of the key principles.
